  1. How far in advance should I start shopping for my wedding dress? If you are shopping for a custom gown 18 months in advance. If you are shopping off the rack, between 6 -12 months depending on the store.

  2. What style of wedding dress would suit my body type? There are 5 main silhouettes. I recommend reviewing past photos of when you felt you looked your best. Showing those to your gown designer will help them identify the right shape for your body type.

  3. How much should I budget for my wedding dress? 20% of your total wedding budget is the average amount spent on attire.

  4. Do I need to make an appointment to try on wedding dresses? YES! Always make an appointment so you will get the best bridal shopping experience.

  5. How long does it take to order a wedding dress? It can take anywhere from 12 - 21 weeks depending on the store. At McEllis Brides, it takes 12 weeks in most cases.

  6. Can I customize my wedding dress? We specialize in wedding gown design so full customization is available for all of our gowns.

  7. Should I bring anyone with me when I try on wedding dresses? We recommend bringing 1 guest with you, but no more than 2.

  8. What types of fabrics are commonly used for wedding dresses? The most common are tulle, lace, satin, organza, and chiffon.

  9. How do I choose the perfect veil to complement my wedding dress? This is a tough one to answer, as there are so many options. The easiest way is to schedule a consultation with us and we can walk you through the right look for you.

  10. Should I wear a specific type of underwear or bra when trying on wedding dresses? A strapless skin tone bra, and low-cut shapewear.

  11. What alterations may be needed for my wedding dress? The most common is a hem, a bustle for the train, and shoulder and or bust adjustments.

  12. Can I rent a wedding dress instead of buying one? We no longer offer gown rentals.

  13. How do I care for my wedding dress before and after the wedding? We offer post-care, cleaning, repairs, and preservation.

  14. What should I do with my wedding dress after the wedding? Have should have your gown repaired, cleaned, and preserved.

  15. What are the typical timeline for wedding dress fittings and alterations? 6 - 8 weeks in most cases. during the peak season, it could extend out to 12 weeks.
